Caio Alcântara Machado invited Eduardo Moraes, Laymert and the architect Jorge Wilheim to discuss what would be the pavillion. The Anhembi Park was conceptualized after 4 days of intense debate. We proposed to add a convention center to the exhibition pavillion (60,000 square meters). Congresses and meetings were already common activities worldwide and a new tourist sector would thus be enhanced. A hotel beside the convention center was also added. Our office was hired to prepare the project.

A 13 meters “tree” metallic structure, probably tubular, was proposed. The large spatial structure was, calculated by the Canadian engineer Cedric Marsh. We wanted to avoid building an enormous (67,000 square meters and 13 meters height) scaffold, since it probably would cost more than the permanent structure itself. We chose to build the huge structure on the ground and to lift it with cranes. This occurred, in eight hours, on September 13, 1978.
