Presidential Palace is the official name of the Palace of Orders of the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil. It is located where the Presidential Office in Brazil. The building also houses the Casa Civil, the General Secretariat and the Office of Institutional Security of the Presidency. It is the seat of the Executive Branch of the Federal Government of Brazil . The building is located in the Plaza of the Three Powers in Brasilia , and was designed by Oscar Niemeyer . The Presidential Palace is part of the project’s master plan of the city and was one of the first buildings built in the capital.

The construction of the Presidential Palace, began on July 10 of 1958 and followed the architectural project designed by Oscar Niemeyer in 1956 . The work was completed in time to make the Palace the center of the festivities of the opening of Brasilia , on April 21 of 1960 . Until then the residence of the president’s survey worked in a temporary wooden building popularly known as Catetinho Palace , opened in October 31 of 1956 on the outskirts of Brasilia .
The design of the Presidential Palace is marked by the simplicity of its lines, with a predominance of horizontal lines. Curves and straight lines are combined so as to give the building a remarkable plasticity and refined. Columns achieve the desired effect by Niemeyer, of being “light as a feather landing on the ground.”

The gardens are by the landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx . In 1991 , we built a reflecting pool in front and right side of the building with an approximate area of 1635 square meters, comprising 1,900 cubic meters of water, with depth of 1m10cm and a width ranging from five to twenty meters. Adorn the water surface several colorful Japanese carp.

The construction of the water surface was done in a matter of urgency at the end of the government of José Sarney , after an unemployed driver intended to invade the palace with the buses that ran, eventually bump into one of the columns. On occasion, as Sarney’s popularity was low, satirical commentary on the palace runaway had crashed with a bus.

The palace consists of four floors with an area of 36,000 square meters and four annexes. On the first floor, reception and concierge services and Press Committee. On the second floor rooms are the East, Noble, West, Meeting Room and the Press Secretary and Disclosure. On the third floor are: the Office of the President and his advisers direct.

In the fourth and top floor work, the House Civil and Institutional Security Office .

On the rear facade of the Palace is the helipad , built in 1990 , in order to meet the short-haul air travel of the President.

The parlor is located to the left of the main entrance, is the place where the President and guests can head to the people concentrated in the square. It was used on the day of inauguration of Brasilia and other rare occasions, as at the time Fernando Henrique Cardoso became the presidential sash to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva at the inauguration of the second.

Access to the main entrance is via a ramp , which is not used in day-to-day by the President, but only on special occasions such as visits of foreign dignitaries.
