The construction of the Rio 2016 Olympic Golf Course is the result of a competition won by young practice Rua Arquitetos, architecture studio established in Rio de Janeiro in 2008, led by Pedro Évora and Pedro Rivera. The project is located in Barra da Tijuca, district originally designed by Lúcio Costa in the West Zone of the city.

Because of the nature of the architectural brief the building was conceived as a piece of landscape, and like the Golf sport most of its space is outdoors, arranged around a square partially covered by a sculptural but light canopy. The simple but elegant concrete shapes evoque the forms of the Brazilian Modernism, so it links this building to the rich tradition of Rio.
